Inner Focus

Counselling and Personal Development

Welcome to my practice

I like to think of my practice as a warm and welcoming shelter from the cold, where those parts of ourselves that feel so unlovable and not good enough out there in the world can feel welcome and respected, seen and heard.

My hope is that I might offer you a little respite from the world: a sensitive, gentle, non-judgemental companionship. Somewhere you can feel at ease to explore any matter that's troubling you.

In the safe space of my counselling room you can be confident in the knowledge that whatever you share is treated confidentially and held with the utmost respect.

My way of working is particularly suited to you if you're experiencing any kind of anxiety - including social anxiety, panic, depression or relationship issues.

I am a qualified Focusing-Oriented Psychotherapist with a Masters degree in Person-Centred Counselling. I am a registered member of BACP.  I offer a free 30 minute no-obligation initial consultation to all prospective clients. I do this from an ethical commitment to enable you to explore and find the right therapist for you without it being a costly process.

It is astonishing how elements which seem insoluble become soluble when someone listens. How confusions which seem irremediable turn into relatively clear flowing streams when one is heard.

Focusing-Oriented Psychotherapy

We cannot change, we cannot move away from what we are, until we thoroughly accept what we are. Then change seems to come about almost unnoticed.

What is true is already so. Owning up to it doesn't make it worse. Not being open about it doesn't make it go away. And because it's true, it is what is there to be interacted with. Anything untrue isn't there to be lived. People can stand what is true, for they are already enduring it.

Common Questions

Do I need therapy?

Be assured that no issue is too small or insignificant to bring to a counselling or psychotherapy session. If something is troubling you then therapy sessions are appropriate and can be of help.

Therapy can also be utilised as a personal development resource to get to know ourselves better, and to develop a deeper self-awareness, self-acceptance and authenticity: to get to know who we really are, and what we really want in our lives.

Counselling or Psychotherapy?

Person-Centred Counselling is the foundation stone of my counselling practice. It can be offered singularly in it's pure form or it can be combined with other therapeutic interventions depending on the client's preference.

Focusing-Oriented Psychotherapy is intrinsically compatible with and informed by Person-Centred Counselling. Focusing-Oriented Psychotherapy grew out of extensive research in Person-Centred Counselling in the 1950s and 60s. It is common to combine these therapies.

What can I expect in a session?

  • A safe, confidential space where you can talk about anything that's troubling you
  • To feel welcome and accepted for all of who you are
  • To be deeply heard and to feel understood
  • To be treated sensitively and with respect
  • To be introduced to therapeutic interventions with a choice of whether to engage or not
  • To be given the choice to express feelings with art materials and symbols instead of or in addition to talking.

How many sessions?

Everybody is unique and each client comes with a different issue/s to be addressed. For this reason it is not possible to say how many sessions you will need.

Some clients find 6 sessions to be adequate; other clients continue to have therapy for several years.

Clients tend to end therapy when they feel the time is right for them.

Client Reviews

Having never had any counselling before, I was really nervous about starting. But I can honestly say, from the first moment I met Sara, she made me feel at ease with her gentle voice and calm, accepting manner. The work that we did together was so helpful and enabled me to make changes in my life which I didn’t even realise were an option!

Sara’s a fantastic therapist, she introduced me to focusing which was new to me. I really enjoyed the sessions and felt much stronger about managing the things in my life that were so difficult at that time.

Thank you Sara, you have helped me to overcome so much and start believing in myself!
